A Darling Bull Moose!

Yesterday I arrived home from a foray out of the house...though at the moment I cannot remember why I had ventured out...and checked the mailbox for a parcel that was supposed to arrive over the weekend and did not.  There was nothing in the mailbox.  I asked Dear One if there was any mail...sometimes mail comes in when I am gone and is not easily visible...!  He told me a couple of ads came in.  There was a box at the table with a brown something wrapped in plastic.  He said it had his name on it but it was clearly mine since it was yarn.

WELL!!!  Wrong on all counts!  I could not remember ordering anything brown yarn, though I really do love brown yarn and fabric.  As I started to take the plastic off to unroll the brown yarn (I would rather spin brown yarn!), I noticed the word "moose" on the label and instantly I remembered the adorable moose our daughter-in-law had given our oldest son for Valentine's Day...and handed the package to Dear One to continue opening it.  He was mystified.  I pointed out that our son frequently sends birthday gifts and the lightbulb went off!

Here is that darling bull moose Dear One received as a birthday gift from our oldest son. 

Here he is outside on the front porch.  I wonder if we will have a name soon.  Bullwinkle is a bit...cliched...I suppose.

You will fall over dead if I tell you the next thing...but I have to let you know again what a kind loving generous man I have been married to for almost fifty-two years.  He said to me after seeing his moose and holding him for a moment, "You need to make a chicken for our son."  I believe I will!

 

Knitting Today: Pet Bunny!

Some time ago I was thinking we needed a pet HOWEVER I was not keen on buying food, feeding and watering on a regular schedule, and ESPECIALLY not interested in cleaning up after a pet SO when Susan B. Anderson created a kit from Barrett Wool Co yarn, I bought into it.

The pattern is called Happy Bunny.  It is available on Ravelry and uses a semi-bulky weight yarn.  Susan's kit is luscious wool yarn and so wonderful to knit up.

Many happy hours are spent knitting but I can tell you right now that I am not a good knitter, just a prolific one.  I made so many errors on this pattern but still, I love the bunny and even Dear One likes her.  We call her Bun.

She sits in the corner of Dear One's couch (which is only "his" since he can stretch out on it when he needs a short nap...)and is pretty happy most of the time.  From time to time I pick her up and hold her and talk to her.

One day, once the knitting queue goes down a lot, I will knit her a friend though probably not a rabbit friend, though I hear this is the year of the rabbit...

Knitting Today: Completed Mother Hen Kit by Susan B. Anderson

 We have a wonderful granddaughter who loved chickens when she was a child.  A couple of months ago I saw a pattern kit for Mini Mother Hen pattern by Susan B. Anderson at BarrettWoolCo.  It was so cute that I thought of our granddaughter.  I texted to see if she still liked chickens.  She gave me a resounding YES!  So what could I do but order the kit.  It took weeks before I could start but now this bird is completed.

The kit I wanted was sold out.  Several times!  Finally I had communication with Susan.  She told me they could send me a kit that was not quite the regular one. It would have different colors.  I said to go for it!  (As I am writing, it is sold out again!!)

Fun project which makes me want to knit animals.  At least a few animals!

Fun Knitted Toy

 A few months ago when I went to my medical practitioner, I discovered that she was expecting a baby. I was so happy.  So happy for her, and so happy for me, because there was a knitted project I had been wanting to make but had not need of it and too many other started projects to start another one.  Now that I would have need of this toy, I pulled out yarn and got started!

Dear One had some interesting comments which I won't share, but basically, he asked me what this is. Well, it is a mini cuddle toy for an infant. I made it in cotton yarn so it can be washed every day if needed.

Basically what you do is knit up a square of fabric and set it aside.  Next you knit a head, ears, a strip that becomes paws, and then a collar.  The head needs eyes and a nose/mouth which need to be embroidered on if you care about the baby.  The actual pattern I used showed that there were beads sewn into the ears!  I could not believe this.  Well, I passed on decorating the ears.

Once you have put the head, ears, and paws together, you find the center point in the square/washcloth, then stitch on the head/paws unit.  Once that is done, you stitch on the collar and you are done.  Well, you need to stitch everything together again and again so the head will not fall off.

So now here is the question:  what animal do you think this is meant to be?
